Partakers: College Behind Bars Mentoring Program

For 25 years, Partakers has worked to help reduce recidivism by promoting education and providing community mentoring for incarcerated women and men pursuing their degrees and educational opportunities. Through our College Behind Bars Mentoring Program, the powerful mentoring relationships that Partakers builds profoundly impact our students' lives, their mentors, their families, and their communities.

At Embark Boston, we are serving as mentors in this program in the hope of reducing prison recidivism through essential educational opportunities and empowering mentorship relationships. Mentors are joined into a team of four and assigned an mentee. The responsibilities as a mentor include writing to your mentee on a monthly basis, having at least one member of the team visit the mentee each month, and committing to care for and support your mentee until they complete their degree program.

This is a wonderful way to support, encourage, and assist those men and women who are looking to reshape their lives through education. We at Embark Boston are excited to be mentors in this program and would encourage others—especially young professionals and recent grads—in supporting others in their educational pursuits. If you’d like to know more, please reach out to us and we’d be thrilled to connect you to the Partakers team. You can also learn more by visiting the Partaker: College Behind Bars website.

Filter of Hope: Cuba

Work in partnership with local churches to contribute to the restoration of their communities by providing families with both clean drinking water and the good news of Jesus.

Filter of Hope makes and distributes household water filters made specifically for families living in poverty. The filter removes bacteria, protozoa, and micro-organisms from contaminated water sources, makes up to 200 gallons of safe drinking water per day, is gravity-fed for simple installation, and lasts up to ten years.

We’ll have the opportunity to work in partnership with local churches to contribute to the restoration of their communities by providing families with both clean drinking water and the good news of Jesus.

Filter of Hope trips will also provide great opportunities for you to grow as a follower of Jesus as you…

  • Enjoy time investing in meaningful relationships

  • Create long-lasting and adventure-filled memories

  • Experience a new culture

  • Take steps of faith to be used by God in new ways
